For Kristen Valenzuela, a dental hygiene student at UTHealth, finding ways to give back to the Houston community during the COVID-19 stay-at-home mandate was a no-brainer. When she discovered her old sewing machine in the garage, the idea of making masks took off.

Since its founding in 1905, The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston has graduated more than 10,000 dentists, dental hygienists and postgraduate generalists and specialists. The school is part of UT Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), joining schools of medicine, nursing, public health, biomedical sciences and biomedical informatics.

The School of Dentistry offers 10 accredited programs: DDS, dental hygiene, two general residency programs and six advanced education programs, including endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and prosthodontics, plus dual-degree programs in partnership with the School of Public Health and McGovern Medical School. Preceptor programs are also available.

Our dental school has served Southeast Texas since 1905, providing a broad range of services, from fillings to reconstructive surgery. Patients are cared for by students and residents under faculty supervision.

Each year, we enroll 100 DDS and 40 dental hygiene students. UTSD students gain clinical skills at on-site clinics, hospitals, and through community outreach projects. Advanced and continuing education programs are offered as well.
